This project was created as an catalog and permanent record for an exhibition of sculpture by the artist George Stoll. The artist had a clear vision of his work for both the exhibition and publication. The challenge in print was translating life-size, three-dimensional artwork into 4-color process ink on paper. Using photography from multiple sources (always a balancing act), images were sized to occupy all of the page-space while maintaining the scale of the individual pieces. With the exception of the Introduction, there is no text in the body of the catalog. From initial layouts to press checks, the artist and I worked side by side on this truly collaborative project.
Stoll’s work has been shown internationally at Museo Jumex in Mexico City; Gallery Seomi, Seoul, Korea; Windows in Brussels, Belgium; Anthony Grant in New York; Paule Anglim in San Francisco; and Angles in Los Angeles, among others. His work is in permanent collections including The Hammer Museum, UCLA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and The Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington. He is a Fellow of The American Academy in Rome. His work is represented by the Baldwin Gallery in Aspen, Colorado.
